Sonya Peterkin is a Florida licensed attorney and the Founder and Managing Attorney of the Law Office of S.A. Peterkin. Sonya Peterkin earned a Bachelors degree in Psychology from Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida, and later earned her Juris Doctorate law degree at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University College of Law in Orlando, Florida. She is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association, American Bar Association, the Middle District of Florida, Southern District of Florida, and South Lake Chamber of Commerce. She has practiced immigration law her entire career. She is fully licensed to represent clients before US Citizenship and Immigration Services, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Immigration Court, the Board of Immigration Appeals, and Federal Court.
PASSION & ROOTS
Attorney Peterkin’s passion for immigration law originates from her experience as the child of two immigrant parents from the island of Jamaica, and growing up in a majority immigrant community in South Florida. Consequently, Attorney Peterkin personally relates to immigrants and their families and understands the difficult challenges they may be facing. She is able to draw from her experiences to provide her clients with legal representation that is honest and personally tailored to meet the client's needs.
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
As a Certified Domestic Violence Advocate, during law school, she worked with many domestic violence victims in Central Florida to obtain protective orders against their abusers in court. Due to her legal training and experience with domestic violence matters, combined with her passion for immigration law, she developed a special interest in assisting immigrant victims of domestic violence obtain immigration status under the Violence Against Women Act. She has spent her legal career, merging her passion, experience, and knowledge, to provide reliable family-based and VAWA-based immigration representation around the country, and participated in various speaking engagements to educate the community and other advocates.
